Rihanna is one of the wealthiest self-made women under age 40 and World’s Richest Female Musician. Robyn Rihanna Fenty is a Barbadian singer, songwriter, fashion designer, actress, philanthropist and businesswoman. Riri was recognized for Keeping her nose on the Grindstone and embracing various musical styles as well as her ability to reinvent her image throughout her career. Her net worth is $600 M (Forbes, 2019).

Rihanna’s difficult childhood  

Robyn Rihanna Fenty was born on February 20, 1988, in Saint Michael Barbados. She is the daughter of accountant Monica and warehouse supervisor Ronald Fenty. Further, she grew up in a three-bedroom bungalow in Bridgetown. Riri had to help her father to sell clothes in a stall on the street due to the hard life in Barbados.

Sadly, her childhood was deeply affected by her father’s alcoholism and crack cocaine addiction. Consequently, this contributed to her parents’ strained marriage. Besides, Rihanna’s father used to beat her mother and the poor little girl would try to get in between them to break up fights.

In fact, as a child, Rihanna had many CT scans for the excruciating headaches she suffered – “The doctors even though it was a tumour because it was that intense.” By the time she was 14, her parents had divorced, and her health began to improve. 


Rihanna’s early career

Rihanna attended Charles F. Broome Memorial Primary School and Combermere High School. Later, she joined an army cadet in a sub-military programme where she met her drill sergeant Shontelle, a singer-songwriter. Although Riri initially wanted to graduate from high school, she chose to pursue a musical career instead.

Furthermore, in 2003, Rihanna formed a musical trio with two of her classmates. Then, in 2015 she was discovered by the American record producer Evan Rogers. Without a name or any material, the girl group managed to land an audition with Rogers who commented – “The minute Rihanna walked into the room, it was like the other two girls didn’t exist.

Rihanna went to Rogers’s hotel room, where she performed renditions of Destiny’s Child’s “Emotion” and Mariah Carey’s “Hero”. Impressed, Rogers scheduled a second meeting including her and her mother. After that, he invited Rihanna to his hometown in the United States to record some demo tapes that could be sent to record labels. Recordings were intermittent, taking about a year because she was only able to record during school holidays. “Pon de Replay” and “The Last Time” were two tracks recorded for the demo tape. That same year, Rihanna signed to Rogers’ and Carl Sturken’s production company, Syndicated Rhythm Productions.

Riri is ambitious, determined and hardworking

Despite Rihanna’s strained beginning and the challenges she faced in her family, her ambition has catapulted her to a height beyond her imaginations.

Rihanna revolutionising the beauty industry

Although Riri made incredible wins in the music arena, most of her successes come from on beauty business innovation.

Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty range was the best invention of 2017. It is high quality and inclusive; her foundation covers about 40- skin shade range. Besides, customers can buy it any time, without no fair to be sold out.

Additionally, Fenty Beauty, the makeup line that she co-owns with a luxury goods conglomerate,  generated a reported $72 million in sales in 2017.Her business also generated $570 million in sales by the end of 2018. In spring 2019, Rihanna launched a new luxury fashion label with LVMH, also called Fenty.

Rihanna is humble and generous

Rihanna is not necessarily a genius such as Elon Musk that is merging artificial intelligence with the human brain to benefit humans. Nevertheless, her kind heart motivated her to change the lives of many globally.

Neigther she was not as wealthy as Jack Ma; even so, after one year of her career, she decided to open her charity organisation named Clara Lionel Foundation. Her foundation focuses on improving Global communities by providing better healthcare, education, and other programmes.

In addition, this pop star/queen has performed on numerous occassion to raise funds for humanitarian causes. She invested in revolutionary nuclear medicine and oncology research centre, which also treat breast cancer in Barbados. Besides, in 2017, this pop queen spent a week in Organizational mission to Malawi to analyse the education sector within the country. Therefore, Rihanna remarkable activism attitude led her to the Humanitarian of the Year award by Harvard University.

Finally, February 21st is always celebrated as Rihanna Day in Barbados.
